Budget Booklet

Using the Budget Booklet

The budget booklet is an easy and effective way to track your cash spending. Print several copies of the page and have a set for each month. You will want to carry this with you at all times.

At the top of the page, there is space to fill in each budget category, such as "groceries", "eating out", "entertainment", etc. Under that you fill in how much you have allocated in your budget for that category for the month. Then you simply go through the month recording your expenditures as you go, subtracting each expenditure from the total budgeted and arriving at a new subtotal in the shaded area. Once you've spent your budgeted amount, hopefully you're done with your month. If you have not spent your entire budget - or let's say you're saving up for a large expense - like maybe a new suit. Then you rollover the amount not spent into next month's category. So, for example, you're saving $500 to buy a new suit - and you've allocated $100/month for clothing. Every month you don't spend money on clothing, you roll over the $100 until you have the $500 saved. Let's say you get a $50 birthday present and you decide to allocate that to your "clothing" category. You simply ADD the $50 into the register and add it into the amount you're rolling over that month.
